It's not like Alaska isn't wilderness - it mostly is. But most Alaskans don't live in the wild. They live on the edge of the wild in towns with schools and cable TV and stores and dentists and roller rinks sometimes. It's just like anyplace else, only with mountains and moose.

North Shore
Some photos from the North Shore over the weekend.
So unlike me you headed to the North Shore. Wise move. Did you get into the water? A fellow from Grand Marais (I see the Sawtooth's in one shot) mentioned that they had been paddling for a month up there.
Talked to people who were still skiing on the lakes, also I think they're still skiing at Lutsen. Grand Marais was iced in when I was there, but I could've paddled a few places along the way. Never got out, figured I'd wait and do the South Shore for the BBI.
