Cool Airplanes

DC-3 came in for some work at the prop shop yesterday ... first time I've seen one here in many years. It happened on the one day this month I left my camera at home, so I had to use the cell phone camera.

Great photo of the old girl! I've flown in many of them including Eisenhower's old plane he used in WW2! She was used in the Canadian arctic for several years. It used to terrify to watch those engines gush oil along the wings as we flew along, but I was never let down by one, which is more than I can say of some other aircraft!

Cheers!

I've never had the opportunity to fly in one. I've heard from others too, as long as you could keep oil in the engines .. they would never let you down. Great old airplanes!

I can't believe they're still around. When I was in SE Asia, in jet fighters, we had a base Gooney we used as a taxi cab. It almost always came home on one engine, and even my jet jocks got nauseas in this stiff winged sweetie.

First 'airliner' I ever flew in, courtesy of the old North Central Airlines, which was gobbled up by Northwest. My dad, who was a pilot, had the motto, "If the tail's red, take the train instead". Still can't argue with that adage in my opinion.
