First Apostle Weekend

Ron Steinwall and I headed up to the Apostles early Friday. We were the second permit issued for the Apostles, the first was for a mainland camper, we were the first kayaker's issued a permit for the islands for the season. Water temp was a brisk 36 F, so as long as we kept out of the wind and waves, we were able to keep fingers warm. The plan was Oak Island Friday night, then Devils for Saturday night, but with thunderstorms around for much of Saturday, and high winds and waves forecast for Sunday morning, we stayed at York Island instead. That made for a nice easy 4 mile paddle back to Little Sand bay in the morning. We still managed to put on about 30 miles over the weekend.

Sarah and I were over on Sand Island for the weekend. Looks like you beat us to the first island camping permit of the year by a couple of hours. Also looks like you beat us on the mileage front. We started on our way around the island on Saturday but aborted at the lighthouse because of the thunderstorms. Too bad we didn't know you guys were so close, we would of headed over to say hi!

The thunderstorms spooked us a little too, lots of lightning near Bayfield. Would've been fun to get together .. have to try again.

Thanks Dick .. I've much to learn about taking photo's, sometimes I get lucky. If your ever paddling the Apostles, let me know, it would be great to get together there sometime.
