It's not like Alaska isn't wilderness - it mostly is. But most Alaskans don't live in the wild. They live on the edge of the wild in towns with schools and cable TV and stores and dentists and roller rinks sometimes. It's just like anyplace else, only with mountains and moose.

Nordkapp Rolls
While on Basswood Island last weekend, I took the opportunity to check out how the boat rolls while fully loaded with gear ... Rich Cook was on the shore and took some pictures ... thanks Rich!
I didn't weigh anything, maybe 80lbs gear, and me 200lbs. Was the first time I had the chance to load it up for a weekend ... so I packed it full as I could, just to see what I could take along. Seems the Nordkapp is not a real high volume boat.
Hey Ron! Nice kayak! Congrats on your purchase! I'm headed to Colorado this week but after that I hope to knock the dust off my sea kayak. Any trips planned?
I have that weekend off so it's posible I'll be up there. It always was a good time...but you know if I show up the weather and waves will come. It does everytime I run that race ;)

Heading up to the Apostles again for the last half of the Holiday week ... Maybe see you at the Two Harbors Kayak Festial?
