Sunrise

Was a beautiful sunrise this morning, stopped by Lake Independence to check on ice conditions after all the rain last night. Lots of fog over the ice with the warm temps. I've much to learn about photography, and had a hard time trying to get some good pictures. this one will have to do, although it doesn't do justice to the morning fog..

Nice shot, Ron. Ice, snow and fog pictures all require telling the camera to over expose, usually about a full f stop.

Ah yes .. much to learn in all my endeavors. I'll give that a try, I have a Pentax W20, I should be able to make some adjustments.

So is the lake clear yet after yesterday's near 80 degree temperatures?

This is what I get for not checking the blogs regularly. Congrats on the new boat! That's great! You and Ron S. will match. :)

Hey Alex, I talked to Ron S yesterday, Bush Lake is now open. I checked Independence last night, but still locked up.
Bush is a great lake for rolling practice, has a decent shallow beach without much activity. We spent many evenings there last summer.

Sounds good. While I expect that Calhoun will be my local spot for rolling and workout paddles, I definitely would be happy to make regular trips up to Bush Lake to paddle and roll with you guys. This is going to be my first paddling season in Minnesota so have lots of lakes and rivers to explore (and of course the BIG LAKE).

Sounds great. I'd still like to help out in your rolling clinic if you ever need a hand.

absolutely. you'd be a great help in working with people on rolling. i've been slacking on the rolling clinic stuff of late because whitewater season came early but i'll definitely have to put some time into the site soon. rather than posting my schedule, it may end up being that people will email me to sign up to be a part of the rolling mailing list and i'll regularly send out times and places where we can meet and help each other learn to roll. i think that's the best way to go at this point.
